a technique for centering.

IN A MOVING VEHICLE, BY RYTHMICALLY SWAYING, EXPERIENCE. OR IN A STILL VEHICLE, BUT LETTING YOURSELF SWING IN SLOWING INVISIBLE CIRCLES.

In a moving vehicle you are resisting each movent. If the vehicle sways to the left you sway to the right.. to balance. You are constantly resisting when you are in a moving vhehicle. This is why you are tired after a long ride... you have been fighting the whole trip.

IN A MOVING VEHICLE, BY RYTHMICALLY SWAYING, EXPERIENCE.

The first thing is not to resist but create your own movement that is harmonic. Forget the road, close your eyes, do not resist and make your movement as if it is a dance. Create a rhythm.

OR IN A STILL VEHICLE.. meaning don't wait for a moving vehicle to center yourself... BY LETTING YOURSELF SWING IN SLOW MOVING CIRCLES.

First swing in a large circle and then slower and slower. Swinging in smaller and smaller circles until your body has stopped visibly moving yet you still feel a subtle circling inside. Your mind is circling. Now the body is not moving, only the mind. Keep making it slower and slower. This is centering.

There are many different dances for this technique.. all my dance is a swaying in circles, whirling dirvishly or standing still. When the body finally stops... the mind keeps on moving.

We loved this movement when we were kids even though we were often told not to. When the body is moving... whirling, it creates a bodiless feeling. As children we found our center when we became aware that our Body was whirling, but We were not.

And this brings us back to the Gap (see T Watching the Breath).

We are born with an open conciousness.. by and by our conciousness becomes fixed by our social environment. When are first born we can only use one eye. Only with present moment experience do we begin to use both eyes... So in the begining we do not feel our bodies as different from other's bodies. We are not fixed... but fixation will come.

Meditation is concerned with creating a Gap. We feel that we "are the body" because we have become fixed in our body. Through the Gap or Silence you become aware that you are more than the body and need not remain fixed there. Swaying and Whirling are techniques for creating the Gap.

a little simperandlove for my first technique i understood could do the trick.. for now... i quote from my newest obsession crystalinks.com

Dancing to the beat of a tribal drum.

The participants reach a level of excitement they call 'Ecstasy'. They feel primal energy.

Trance Dance is a healing tool with its roots in many ancient cultures. It is practiced by Shaman.

Musical dance is a journey in the Shamanic tradition of the Native American people, and their insight into the power and magic of the animal archetypes, the healing of others, and the healing of the Earth Mother.

The process of Trance Dance seems to fall into three stages;

Firstly a building of trust - getting to know the others in the group. We do this physically with movement and mirroring games and people start to reveal who and how they are to the group. Next to find a partner who will be with us during the dance, noticing what we need and keeping us safe

Then to the dance itself. Dancing one or two at a time with their eyes closed the dancers accept the safety provided by the rest of the group. As they let go deeper into the dance their bodies spontaneously express whatever needs releasing. The dancers partner and two or three others surround them, keeping them from collisions. The supporters use their intuition to decide what it is the dancer needs; perhaps more space or arms ready to catch them if they loose their balance, a hand to hold or voice to support the dancers own shouts.

The dancer often comes to 'points of resistance' when they loose their balance or energy, with help they push through these till they have gone as far as they want to.

The drummers meanwhile have a similar role. Matching the dancers energy. Not pushing with their drumming but watching closely for the shift or breakthrough in the dancers movement and following them. The energy forms a circuit between dancer, supporter and drummer, sometimes slow, sometimes a reaching a crescendo of passion. Following the flow to stillness.

In this way it seems a perfect embodiment of love and relationship through acceptance, support, intuition and energy exchange - the dance of holding and being held. The dancer has the safe space to show the parts of themselves they may have found difficult to express and so they move deeper into love of themselves.

The dance ends when the dancer has gone as far as they are able and at that point they are helped to a comfortable space by their partner who stays with them to nurture and support them, always listening to what the dancer needs and wants from them.

When everyone who wants to has danced we reach the final stage of the day. A quiet closeness as the group comes back together, perhaps holding each other in gentle contact. People find their place in the centre or on the outskirts of the group according to their needs.

At the sharing some have been moved by the feeling of being safely held by the group and others by the chance to follow their intuition in supporting others. A quiet time for integration and re-centring is then needed. Many people have moved energy that has been stagnant for a long time; this culture doesn't make many safe spaces for strong passion - whatever kind of emotion it contains. This often leads to blockage, unhappiness and illness.

We need to dance and drum as much as every other culture throughout history. We need times to be in our body instead of our heads and to feel the ecstasy of letting go. In Trance Dance we can learn to trust that our bodies know what we need to do. And we can learn to accept and love ourselves and others in the process.

http://www.niam.com/corp-web/questionnaire.html

and here's a summary thanks to crystalinks.com:

AYURVEDA HEALING

Ayurveda stresses the concept of balance in healing. One can learn to heal themselves or remain healthy by staying in balance.

Ayurveda (pronounced I-your-vay-da), said to be a world medicine, is the most holistic or comprehensive medical system available.

Five thousand years ago in the Himalayas, one of the greatest sages of India, Srila Vyasadeva wrote down the Vedas for the first time, this included a limb of which is called Ayurveda: "The science of Life" (Ayur means life and Veda means science). The Vedas came from an oral tradition that reached back into antiquity. Srila Vyasadev entrusted the original copies of the texts with his most erudite and enlightened disciples, who, along with other great sages, inaugurated a very long sacrificial ceremony for hundreds of years for the purification and blessings of the entire world. Remember people lived for one to two thousand years back then. During that time, they studied and discussed these ancient texts with their own disciples, who wrote commentaries, and expanded and developed these original and eternal truths without ever altering them.

Ayurveda is a science that teaches how to live in a true and natural balance. This is not limited to the proper functioning of our mind, body and soul but extends further in establishing a natural and balanced relationship with the nature as a whole.

This includes a balanced relationship between us and all the creatures, our family members, our friends, our colleagues at the place of work and also the work, the climate and the society we live in, our ideas and customs, and finally with truth and God.

Ayurveda teaches how to maintain this balance. As long as we can maintain this balance we are healthy and when there is imbalance there is disease, unhappiness and misery.

Ayurveda is considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science. It is a Sanskrit word which means "The Science of Life." Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the "Mother of All Healing". It stems from the ancient Vedic culture and was taught for many thousands of years in an oral tradition from accomplished masters to their disciples. Some of this knowledge was set to print a few thousand years ago, but much of it is inaccessible.

The principles of many, if not all, natural healing systems now familiar in the West, such as Homeopathy and Polarity Therapy, have their roots in Ayurveda.

Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages maintaining health by paying close attention to balance in one's life through right thinking, diet, lifestyle and herbs. Knowledge of Ayurveda enables one to understand how to create balance of body, mind and consciousness according to one's own individual constitution and how to make lifestyle changes to bring about and maintain this balance.

Just as everyone has an individual face or thumb print, according to Ayurveda, each person has a particular pattern of energy--an individual combination of physical, mental and emotional characteristics--which is his or her constitution. This constitution is determined at conception by a number of factors and is the same throughout one's life.

Many factors, both internal and external, act upon us to disturb this balance and are reflected as a change in one's constitution from the balanced state. Examples of some of these emotional and physical stresses are: one's emotional state, diet and food choices, seasons and weather, physical trauma, work and family relationships.

Once these factors that can cause imbalance are understood, one can take appropriate actions to nullify or minimize their effects or eliminate the causes, and re-establish one's original constitution.

Balance is the natural order; imbalance is disorder. Health is order; disease is disorder. Within the body there is a constant interaction between order and disorder. Once one understands the nature and structure of disorder, one can re-establish order.

Ayurveda identifies three basic types of energy or functional principles that are present in everybody and everything.

There are no single words in English to describe these principles, so we use the original Sanskrit words Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Energy is required to create movement so that fluids and nutrients get to the cells, enabling the body to function.

Energy is also required to metabolize the nutrients in the cells, and is called for to lubricate and maintain cellular structure.

Vata is the energy of movement, Pitta the energy of digestion or metabolism and Kapha the energy of lubrication and structure.

All people have vata, pitta and kapha, but one is usually primary, one secondary and the third least prominent.

The cause of disease in Ayurveda is viewed as the lack of proper cellular function because of an excess or deficiency of vata, pitta or kapha and/or the presence of toxins. In Ayurveda, body, mind and consciousness work together in maintaining balance. They are simply viewed as different facets of one's being.

To learn how to balance the body, mind and consciousness then requires an understanding how vata, pitta and kapha work together.

According to Ayurvedic philosophy the entire cosmos is an interplay of the energies of the five great elements--Space, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. Vata, pitta and kapha are combinations and permutations of these five elements that manifest as patterns present in all creation.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

VATA TYPES

In the physical body, vata--composed of Space and Air--is the subtle energy associated with movement. It governs breathing, blinking, muscle and tissue movement, pulsation of the heart, and all movements in the cytoplasm and cell membranes. In balance, vata promotes creativity and flexibility. Out of balance, vata produces fear and anxiety.

A person with vata predominant is blessed with a quick mind, flexibility and creativity. Vata provides the essential motion for all bodily processes and is extremely vital for health. One purpose of lifestyle considerations is to "ground" or stabilize this motion. On an annual basis, vata is most prominent in the fall and at the change of seasons, and these are the most important times to be careful of diet and lifestyle. Routine is very useful in assisting the vata individual to effectively ground all this moving energy.

Vata types have variable appetite and digestion. They are often attracted to astringent foods like salad and vegetables, but their constitution is balanced by sweet, sour and salty tastes. Vata people tend to produce little urine and their feces are hard, dry and small in size and quantity. Mentally, vata people usually grasp things quickly but then forget them quickly. They are alert, restless and very active. They walk, talk and think fast, but are easily fatigued. They have less willpower and often feel unstable and ungrounded. They have less tolerance, confidence and boldness. When unbalanced, vata types have a tendency to become fearful and nervous, and may experience high anxiety. In the external world, vata types tend to earn money quickly and spend it quickly. They are not good planners and as a consequence may suffer economic hardship. Vata resides in the colon, as well as the brain, ears, bones, joints, skin and thighs. Vata people are more susceptible to diseases involving the air principle, such as emphysema, pneumonia and arthritis. Other common vata disorders include flatulence, tics, twitches, aching joints, dry skin and hair, nerve disorders, constipation, and mental confusion. Vata tends to increase with age as is indicated by drying and wrinkling of the skin.

Since the attributes of vata are dry, light, cold, rough, subtle, mobile, clear and dispersing, any of these qualities in excess can cause imbalance. Frantic travel, especially by plane, loud noises, continual stimulation, drugs, sugar, and alcohol all derange vata, as does exposure to cold and cold foods. Like the wind, vata types have a hard time becoming and staying grounded. Routine is difficult but essential if vata is to be lowered and controlled. In general, people with excessive vata respond most rapidly to warm, moist, slightly oily, heavy foods. Steam baths, humidifiers, and moisture in general are helpful.

General food guidelines for decreasing vata are:

50% whole grains: whole grain cooked cereals, some breads and crackers 20% protein: eggs, high quality dairy products, poultry, fish, seafood, beef, tofu, black and red lentils 20-30% fresh vegetables with an optional 10% for fresh fruits

General guidelines for balancing vata:

Keep warm Keep calm Avoid raw foods Avoid extreme cold Avoid cold foods Eat warm foods and spices Keep a regular routine

------------------------------------------------------------------------

PITTA TYPES

Pitta, made up of Fire and Water, expresses as the body's metabolic system. It governs digestion, absorption, assimilation, nutrition, metabolism and body temperature. In balance, pitta promotes understanding and intelligence. Out of balance, pitta arouses anger, hatred and jealousy.

Pitta people have many of the qualities of fire. Fire is hot, penetrating, sharp, and agitating. Similarly, pitta people have warm bodies, penetrating ideas, and sharp intelligence. But they can also become very agitated and short tempered. The pitta body type is one of medium height and build, with ruddy or coppery skin. They may have many moles and freckles. Their skin is warm and less wrinkled than vata skin. Their hair tends to be silky and they often experience premature graying or hair loss. Their eyes are of medium size and conjunctiva is moist. The nose is sharp and the tip tends to be reddish.

Pitta people have a strong metabolism, good digestion, and strong appetites. They like plenty of food and liquids. They tend to love hot spices and cold drinks. However, their constitution is balanced by sweet, bitter and astringent tastes. Pitta people sleep well and of medium duration. They produce large quantities of urine and feces, which tend to be yellowish, soft and plentiful. They easily perspire. Hands and feet stay warm. Pitta people have a lower tolerance for sunlight, heat or hard physical work. Mentally, pitta types are alert and intelligent and have good powers of comprehension. However, they are easily agitated and aggressive and tend toward hate, anger and jealousy when imbalanced. In the external world, pitta people like to be leaders and planners and seek material prosperity. They like to exhibit their wealth and possessions. Pitta people tend to have diseases involving the fire principle such as fevers, inflammatory diseases and jaundice. Common symptoms include skin rashes, burning sensation, ulceration, fever, inflammations or irritations such as conjunctivitis, colitis, or sore throats.

Since the attributes of pitta are oily, hot, light, mobile, and liquid, an excess of any of these qualities aggravates pitta. Summer is a time of heat, the pitta season. Sunburn, poison ivy, prickly heat, and short tempers are common. These kinds of pitta disorders tend to calm down as the weather gets cooler. The diet and lifestyle changes emphasize coolness-cool foods, avoidance of chilies and spices (especially difficult for New Mexicans), and cool climates. People with excessive pitta need to exercise at the coolest part of the day.

Dietary guidelines for pitta are: 50% whole grains--whole grain breads, cereals, cooked grains 20% protein--beans (except lentils), tofu, tempeh, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, raw milk, egg white, chicken and turkey (white meat), shrimp, rabbit, venison 20-30% vegetables with an optional 10% for fresh fruits

Other guidelines: Avoid excessive heat Avoid excessive oil Avoid excessive steam Limit salt intake Eat cooling, non-spicy foods Exercise during the cooler part of the day

------------------------------------------------------------------------

KAPHA TYPES

Kapha is formed from Earth and Water and is the energy that forms the body's structure--bones, muscles, tendons--and provides the "glue" that holds the cells together. Kapha supplies the water for all bodily parts and systems. It lubricates joints, moisturizes the skin, and maintains immunity. In balance, kapha is expressed as love, calmness and forgiveness. Out of balance, it leads to attachment, greed and envy.

Kapha people are blessed with strength, endurance and stamina. They have sweet, loving dispositions and are stable and grounded. Their skin is oily and smooth. Physically, kapha people tend to gain weight and have a slow metabolism. They shun exercise. They have thick skin and their bodies and muscles are well developed. Their eyes are large, dark, and attractive with thick, long lashes and brows. Kapha people evacuate slowly and feces tend to be soft, pale and oily. Perspiration is moderate. Sleep is deep and prolonged. Kapha types are attracted to sweet, salty and oily foods, but their constitutions are most balanced by bitter, astringent and pungent tastes.

Psychologically, kapha people tend to be calm, tolerant and forgiving. However, they may become lethargic. While they may be slow to comprehend, their long term memory is excellent. When out of balance, kaphas tend to experience greed, envy, attachment and possessiveness. In the external world, kapha tendencies toward groundedness, stability, and attachment help them to earn and hold onto money.

They tend to have diseases connected to the water principle such as flu, sinus congestion, and other diseases involving mucous. Sluggishness, excess weight, diabetes, water retention, and headaches are also common. Kapha can become more aggravated as the moon gets full because, as biologists have discovered, there is a tendency for water retention at that time. Winter is the time of greatest kapha accumulation and following the dietary and lifestyle changes are most important during that season.

Dietary guidelines for kapha are:

30-40% whole grains: rye crackers, dry cereals, and cooked grains 20% protein: chicken, turkey, boiled and poached eggs, rabbit, small amount of goats milk, and most beans (including garbanzos, adukis, pintos, black beans, red lentils, navy and white beans, split peas, and black eye peas) 40-50% fresh vegetables with an optional 10% for fresh or dried fruits. A daily salad is good.

Other guidelines: Get plenty of exercise Avoid heavy foods Keep active Avoid dairy Avoid iced food Vary your routine Avoid fatty, oily foods Avoid iced drinks Eat light, dry food

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ayurveda encompasses various techniques for assessing health. It assesses prodromal symptoms, cardinal signs and symptoms, and one's suitability for treatment to help determine the etiology and pathogenesis of an imbalance. Various methods are utilized to help acquire information during an assessment with a client.

These methods include: questioning, observation, palpation, direct perception and inference. Techniques such as taking the pulse; observing the tongue, eyes and physical form; and listening to the tone of the voice are employed during an assessment.

Palliative and cleansing measures, if appropriate, can be used to help eliminate an imbalance along with suggestions for eliminating or managing the causes of the imbalance. Recommendations may include: implementation of lifestyle changes; starting and maintaining a suggested diet; and the use of herbs.

In some cases, participating in a cleansing program, called panchakarma, is suggested to help the body rid itself of accumulated toxins so it can gain more benefitfrom various suggested measures of treatment.

In summary, Ayurveda addresses all aspects of life--the body, mind and spirit. It recognizes that each of us is unique, each responds differently to the many aspects of life, each possesses different strengths and weaknesses. Through insight, understanding and experience Ayurveda presents a vast database of the relationships between causes and their affects, both immediate and subtle, for each unique individual.

hiall... just for share in a "wow" kinda way.

last week i had a most unusual day. i had come across a book by Dan Millman, The Life You Were Born To Live. It's linked to pythagorean or sacred geometry and numerology. When i'd put the system together and checked it out on me and my own i was shocked. So shocked that i began to weep.

the basics are:

Our numerical birthdate determines our life issues and purpose. This can then be figured with any other date to determine energies being focused on at that time. I can't even give it justice in a post so.... go get the book!!

the system then breaks down into:

1-creativity & confidence
2-cooperation & balance
3-expression & sensitivity
4-stability & balance
5-freedom & discipline
6-accptance & vision
7-trust & openness
8-power & abundance
9-integrity & wisdom

About 30 minutes after having cried like a little girl.. while explaining the number 4 to a friend she noticed that the time was 11:11. Adding them up i realized i was doing real time "processing" and began to process what i had learned in the following 7 minutes of empiracle life.

an astounding day which lead to this:

12=1+2=3=third dimension - manifestation in 3D
12 spiraling cones around 1 source = 13 = 4=4th dimension = time
Forming grid programs of eXperience - MatriX - Tricks - Trickster - Duality
The boX = 'X' or the hourglass='Z'
'X' - As is above, So is Below - Emerald Tablets of Thoth=Hermes Trismegistus
Hermes The Magician - Magic - Tricks - Magi - Christ Consciousness Grid
Thoth the ancient Egyptian Scribe who wrote our program
Emerald = Alchemy - Emerald City = OZ - The WiZard
Alchemy Wheel of Consciousness based on the spiraling patterns of
Sacred Geometry = SG = StarGate = Wheel of Karma = Alchemy Wheel
which spirals consciousness back to Source
and is linked with the center - Eye of the Milky Way Galaxy - the Heart

and of course... as with any other "ology"... garbage in garbage out. Don't be making the big calls and forgetting to carry the two too.

Osho is the most amazing reading i have ever done.

Osho was... is a mystic... a buddha... an enlightened one... He was born enlightened which means that he had previously died while enlightened and he chose to come back and help some of us.

Osho did not write most of his work.. he spoke and thousands came to listen. They wrote down his words for us.

It's a large body of work and every word is truth... i highly recommend any of his books and you can find many of his speakings online.

peace and joy,

Here's a link to the Buddhist lay organization I practice Nichiren Buddhism with, the Soka Gakkai International ("Value-Creation Society"). www.sgi-usa.org The practice centers on chanting the phrase, "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo," which translates roughly as "Dedication to the Mystic Law of Cause-and-Effect through Sound". The practice helps one become more centered and enlightened, and as a result, an improvement in one's environment is reflected. Send me an email or contact the organization for more info.

The Tantras are the most complete set of techniques i know of and I also really like The Art Of Breathing by Nancy Zi.

Putting a part of your attention on your breathing is a very usefull technique for being in the moment. When your attention is on your breath, thoughts cannot enter. Only when you breath without awareness can thoughts enter. When thoughts enter you are not experiencing the moment, rather your attention is associating with the past or projecting into the future.

Watching your breath does not mean that you should breath a certain way. It is being aware of the air as it passes your nostrils. The sound the air makes as you fill and expand with Breath, Life Energy or Prana... SO HUM. The sensation of your tummy and chest expanding and contracting.

If you would like a technique, try this:

inhale a regular breath for 6 seconds.
hold your breath for 3 seconds.
exhale for 6 seconds.
hold for 3 seconds.
repeat for 10 pranic breaths.

not only will this energize and balance you tremendously, it will also help you practice awareness of your breath. There are many techniques like this. Try all of them for 3 days each and you will find the perfect technique for your type. These techniques are keys and our egos are locks.

This experience of Time, Matter, Energy and Space begins and ends with Breath. That Gap or Silence, that precise moment there is a pause the Divine is experienced.

being a Witness to your breath is the only way to be fully present to the moment that is the Now. being a witness to your breath opens all of your senses to exactly what You are experiencing.
